Mission 5: Pray for what God is doing globally

This week’s mission is to be in prayer for what God is doing globally. For Mountain Creekers, be sure to pray for our team in Canada and for Southwinds Church. Pray that God will work through them and in them. Pray that God will show them up close and personal how He is moving in post-Christian Canada.

Here are a few other specific prayer needs you can pray for:

• Pray for David Rice and his family in Hungary.
• Darren Tipton and DoMissions’ work in Africa.
• Check out the IMB’s prayer page to see specific prayer needs in their work around the world.

Also, stay aware this week of global news and be in prayer for specific world situations (like the bloody election in Zimbabwe). Click here for more news sites than you could ever want.

Pray that the glory of God and the good news of Jesus will spread among all nations and tribes.

Mission 4: Start a conversation with someone you don’t know

Alright boys and girls, Mission 4 is ready to roll.

But first, let me remind you to tell us your stories. Post a comment here on the site or write on the wall on the Facebook page. Let us all hear of what God is doing in your new life as a missionary!

Now for mission 4:

Start a conversation with someone you don’t know.

You don’t have to break out the 4 Spiritual Laws tract, but do break out your personality and engage someone in conversation. Interacting and talking to new people as you go about your day is a good habit to make. Let’s start this week!

Mission 3: Re-connect with a friend far from God

 Mission 3 is simple. Think of a friend you haven’t talked to in a while who is far from God.

Call him. Call her.

Re-connect. Catch up. Pray for him or her before you call, silently while you are talking, and afterwards.

Maybe make plans to talk again soon, go to lunch, or to catch a movie.

Rebuild the relationship. Help build the bridge to Christ.

Mission 2: Have a conversation with your neighbor

It’s amazing how few people really know their neighbors. Sure, you might know what kind of car they drive, what time they normally get home, and perhaps their names. But do you know about them? Do you know them?

This week, actually have a conversation with a neighbor. Doesn’t have to be about deep life issues. Here are some examples of conversation topics (feel free to add more in the comments section):

• How was your day?
• Where do you work?
• What are your hobbies?
• How is your golf game?
• Are you going on vacation this summer?
• Is there anything I can do to help you?
• Why is it so stinkin’ hot?
• Can I cut your grass?

The possibilities are endless. Just engage a neighbor in a conversation. Let them know you care.

And if you haven’t had a chance to accomplish Mission 1 yet, don’t worry. There isn’t a statute of limitations on these or anything. Just do it when you go out to eat this weekend (and keep doing it everytime you go out to eat).

Mission 1: Praying for waiter/waitress

It’s time to kick off WeAreSent.com and be a missionary where you live, work, study, and play. Here is the first mission:

As you eat in restaurants, ask the waiter/waitress if there is anything you can pray for him/her about.

This is a great way to get to know the waiter/waitress at a deeper level than as the person  who takes your order and brings you your food. It will be especially beneficial if you eat at the restaurant regularly.

You may something like, “It is our custom to pray before we eat. Is there anything we can pray for you about today?”

You may get a weird look. You may get told no. You may have caught the waiter/waitress on a horrible day and he/she really opens up and appreciates the prayer. You just never know. Be sure to be praying before you go to eat that God would send you to just the right person–that he would use you in a waiter/waitress’ life this week.
